The Lake Charles Police Department practices a structured and rigorous selection process for the purpose of employing the most qualified, motivated and honest professionals available. Upon successfully meeting each of the requirements listed below, department candidates are selected for probational appointment to attend a Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy.
Conditional offer of employment upon successful completion of all phases
In addition to the $6000 hiring incentive, Lake Charles Police Officers are paid bi-weekly and can expect to receive a beginning wage of $23.15 an hour, equivalent to $48,500 annually. These figures do not include built in four-hour short day overtime every pay period or other overtime worked by the officer. Qualifying officers may also receive an additional educational supplement of $100.00 per month for a bachelor’s degree from an Accredited University. Following the first year of employment, there is a guaranteed scheduled 2% annual longevity pay increase every year, for 25 years.
